Digital

At the heart of the ECX/ECA is our exclusive multiple sequencer design. A sequencer is a multiprocessor, high-performance, computational unit that handles real-time experiment control tasks. When coupled with a DDS (direct digital synthesis) daughter card, it is a complete digital RF source capable of complex waveform generation with frequency, phase and amplitude control. Similarly, when coupled with a field gradient daughter card it provides computer-controlled waveform output for triple-axis pulsed field gradients.

Powerful

An ECA may have up to twelve of these dual processor sequencers. Each are implemented in concert using JEOL's highly readable pulse programs, which decompose pulse program information to the sequencers. Used together, these RF sources function as independent logical channels, vastly simplifying pulse programming. Using this design, each offset in a pulse program can be discretely generated by any one of the sequencers. Thus, multiple offsets can be specified in pulse programs using parallel statements instead of off-resonance pulses.

Flexible

Because each sequencer is a computer-controlled waveform generator, it can also easily generate state-of-the-art off-resonance pulses, such as SLP (shifted laminar pulses), as well as any type of shaped pulse or decoupling scheme. This future-proof design is also able to implement new shapes and pulses yet to be written. JEOL’s RF design is quite simply the most powerful and most flexible ever conceived.
