Shinichi Watanabe

Shinichi Watanabe,
Chairman of the Board of Directors

In the current economic climate, the United States' prominent role in research and development has stimulated the need for advanced scientific instrumentation used in life science and material science. With an eye to the future, JEOL USA Chairman Shinichi Watanabe explores new opportunities for JEOL USA and its parent company JEOL, Ltd., to collaborate with leaders in this new wave of nanotechnology and life sciences research. JEOL, as a global solution provider, has also successfully forged relationships with partners who reach a wide range of markets. In parallel, the company continues to expand its presence in North and South America, where Mr. Watanabe is instrumental in establishing new regional sales headquarters.

Mr. Watanabe was appointed JEOL USA Chairman in 2007, and resides in historic Salem, Massachusetts. He joined JEOL more than 30 years ago, after graduating from Aoyama Gakuin University, and is instrumental in establishing JEOL as a Global Solution Provider for Advanced Technology.


Robert T. Santorelli

Robert T. Santorelli,
CEO, Member of the Board of Directors 

Mr. Santorelli has been influential in guiding JEOL USA’s evolution from a primary focus on academic R&D markets in North and South America to a far-reaching vision encompassing industry and the life sciences. During his more than 30 years with the company, he has served as executive vice president, general manager, director of sales and marketing, and manager of sales administration. He now serves as CEO of JEOL USA and President of two subsidiary companies: JEOL Canada and JEOL Mexico. In addition he is a Member of the JEOL USA Board of Directors.

Mr. Santorelli received his technical education in aerospace electronics and photographic reconnaissance equipment through the U.S. Air Force, and his business education at Leslie College’s Program for Business and Industry, Suffolk University, and Newbury Jr. College (Boston) and the University of Maryland Far East Asian Division (Japan).


Peter Genovese

Peter Genovese,
President, Member of the Board of Directors

Named President of JEOL USA in 2009, Mr. Genovese has held key positions in the JEOL sales organization for 25 years. He most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of the Sales and Marketing Division for electron optics and analytical instrumentation. His responsibilities at JEOL have previously included management of the New England regional sales for electron optics, and Assistant Sales Manager of JEOL USA’s regional sales offices. Mr. Genovese received a B.S. in Economics from Boston College and an Executive M.B.A. from Suffolk University, and is a member of several microscopy societies throughout the U.S.


Hisao Wada

Hisao Wada,
Vice President, South American Operations, Member of the Board of Directors

Mr. Wada joined JEOL in 1970. His responsibilities have spanned both production and field service for JEOL instruments and have taken him from Japan to North and South America. Initially he applied his electrical engineering background to final test and service of JEOL transmission electron microscopes. In 1979, he was appointed Regional Service Manager in San Francisco, California. In 1981, he returned to the JEOL factory in Akishima, Japan to manage the TEM final test department. He became Director of the Service Division at JEOL USA in 1989. Until 2003, he was responsible for communications between JEOL USA and the JEOL factory, as well as service operations in Mexico, Central and South America. In 1991, he established the JEOL de Mexico office, and was director of that office for 17 years. His current focus is to establish and develop the JEOL Brazil office. Mr. Wada became Vice President of JEOL USA in 1995.


Patrick McGinley

Patrick McGinley,
Vice President and General Manager, Service Division, Member of the Board of Directors

Since joining JEOL in 1976, Mr. McGinley has held both technical and service positions and managed numerous programs to enhance JEOL’s customer satisfaction. He established JEOL’s award-winning customer satisfaction program, expanded JEOL’s service capabilities to 24x7, instituted JEOL’s quality repair guarantee program, and managed development of JEOL’s service contract system and customized scheduling and call tracking system. He has held several management positions, including district, national, and international service manager (Mexico and Canada). Mr. McGinley holds a technical degree in electronic engineering from Lincoln Technical Institute in Pennsylvania.


Robert Pohorenec

Vice President and General Manager, Operations Division, Member of the Board of Directors

Promoted in 2006 to the Board of Directors, Mr. Pohorenec is General Manager of Operations at JEOL USA. He oversees management of JEOL USA inventory, procurement, logistics, accounting, information technology and related operational functions as well as two engineering groups. He has held several positions at JEOL since joining the company in 1984 as a service engineer in the Dallas, Texas office. Throughout the 1990s and until recently, he held management positions in JEOL’s U.S. Products manufacturing division. He is a graduate of Northeastern University with a B.S. in Operations Technology, and received Electronic Engineering technical training at DeVry Institute.”


Charles Nielsen

Vice President SEM, EPMA, and Auger Instrumentation Product Director

Mr. Nielsen’s involvement with the SEM, EPMA, and Auger product cycle begins with working closely with JEOL in Japan to establish new instrument design specifications, and continues through to long-term customer support. He is a member of JEOL USA’s Board of Directors, manages the demonstration facilities at Peabody, MA and Pleasanton, CA, and is chairman of the safety and travel committees. In addition to these responsibilities, he is also a Director of the Microbeam Analysis Society. He received graduate degrees in Physics from Wake Forest University and Materials Science from Cornell University. Prior to joining JEOL, he was a research associate in the Marine Geology department at the University of Rhode Island.


Dr. J. Douglas Meinhart

Dr. J. Douglas Meinhart,
Vice President and Analytical Instruments Director

Dr. Meinhart is the Director of Analytical Instruments (NMR, Mass Spec and ESR) and is responsible for product management, coordinating operations, managing the applications staff and participating in new product development. Prior to joining JEOL 20 years ago, Doug received his B.S. in Chemistry from the University of Rochester in 1981, Ph.D. in Chemistry from the California Institute of Technology in 1987, and completed post-doctoral studies at the University of Chicago. He is also a member of the American Chemical Society.


Dr. Thomas Isabell

Dr. Thomas Isabell,
Director, TEM Product Division

Dr. Isabell heads the Transmission Electron Microscope product division of JEOL USA. Since joining JEOL in 2003 as Assistant Product Manager, Tom has worked closely with the JEOL USA TEM group, JEOL Ltd. in Japan and with JEOL customers to help keep the company at the forefront of TEM technology in materials and life sciences research. Prior to joining JEOL, Dr. Isabell held positions in business development at EmiSpec in Tempe, Arizona and applications support at Fischione Instruments in Export, Pennsylvania. Dr. Isabell received a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University.
