Superconducting magnets are essential for high-resolution NMR measurements. To generate extremely stable, high-strength magnetic fields, the magnet coils are cooled to cryogenic temperatures using liquid helium. JEOL offers three superconducting magnet series covering frequencies from 400 MHz to 800 MHz, each optimised to meet the requirements of its field strength range.

NEW
The XC2 Series superconducting magnets take their name from “eXtreme Compact.” By introducing new superconducting wire technology and redesigning the coil structure, JEOL has significantly reduced magnet size compared with conventional models. At the same time, the XC2 Series maintains the high magnetic-field homogeneity and stability associated with the JJ Series.
Both the 500 MHz and 600 MHz XC2 systems use a cryostat with the same footprint as the 400 MHz JJ magnet. Their cryogen evaporation rates are also comparable to those of the 400 MHz JJ magnet, helping to reduce operating requirements while improving installation flexibility.

  • The reduced magnet size increases laboratory layout flexibility, enabling installation in rooms where a conventional magnet may have been difficult to accommodate.
  • The XC2 Series continues to support a wide range of attachments and peripheral systems, including auto sample changers and the CR-80 Cryogen Reclamation System.
  • The reduced cryogen requirement at delivery can help lower both running costs and initial installation costs.
  • The XC2 Series also inherits the proven robustness of the JJ Series, while magnetic shielding reduces both stray magnetic fields and the influence of the external environment.

400 MHz JJ Series YH Type

Reduced maintenance through an extended helium hold time

The 400 MHz JJ Series YH Type magnet — 400JJYH — is a “Year Hold” superconducting magnet with a greatly improved liquid helium hold time of 365 days, while maintaining a compact cryostat design.
When combined with a compact NMR spectrometer, the 400JJYH increases layout flexibility and allows all system components to be arranged within a limited laboratory space.

High-performance magnetic shielding

The magnetic shield design of the 400JJYH reduces stray magnetic fields and helps minimise the influence of nearby external magnetic disturbances. This enables multiple NMR systems to be installed in close proximity, supporting safer, more reliable, and more comfortable operation.

Earthquake-resistant magnet design

The 400JJYH combines a low center of gravity with a base plate and non-contact anchor bolts to help minimise damage in the event of a disaster. In addition, the composite-reinforced rods supporting the helium and nitrogen vessels inside the superconducting magnet have been strengthened. The structure is designed to withstand both transport vibration and significant vibration during earthquakes.

700 MHz / 800 MHz JJ Series

Robust performance for high magnetic fields

The 700 MHz and 800 MHz JJ Series superconducting magnets provide robust performance for high-field NMR applications. They are designed to support the stability, reliability, and installation requirements associated with higher magnetic field strengths.

Compatible with a wide range of attachments

The JJ Series supports automated measurement and reduced operating costs through compatibility with peripheral systems such as auto sample changers and the CR-80 Cryogen Reclamation System.

High robustness

The tension rods supporting the liquid nitrogen and liquid helium vessels inside the superconducting magnet are made from composite-reinforced materials. This provides a robust structure designed to withstand vibration during transport.
This technology reflects JEOL’s experience in Japan, where earthquake resistance is an important design consideration. JEOL’s magnet structures have demonstrated their effectiveness in preventing superconducting magnets from toppling during major earthquakes.
