The field of cryogenic electron microscopy (cryo-EM) exploded in popularity during the “resolution revolution” in the 2010s, leading to the 2017 Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to Jacques Dubochet, Joachim Frank and Richard Henderson “for developing cryo-electron microscopy for the high-resolution structure determination of biomolecules in solution.”  Cryo-EM techniques such as single particle analysis (SPA) now allow structure determination of biomolecules at resolutions before only being reached by X-ray crystallography. The AMS7032 operational qualification (OQ) standard evaluates the ability of an AM powder bed fusion machine to consistently meet material specification requirements while maintaining process control and stability over several builds. In this webinar, JEOL will present the criticality of specifications — such as AMS7032 — for qualifying powder bed fusion modalities in preparation for serial production. In addition, it will present data demonstrating the capability of electron beam powder bed fusion (EB-PBF) to meet the rigorous AMS7032 OQ standards while achieving the AMS7011 materials requirements for Ti-6AI-4V.
