Executive Management Team and Board of Directors

Yasuho Toyoda

Mr. Yasuho Toyoda,
Managing Director, Member of the Board of Directors

JEOL USA welcomed Mr. Yasuho Toyoda as a new member of the USA Executive Management Team in May 2010. With a career spanning more than 35 years at JEOL Ltd. in Japan, Mr. Toyoda has held several key management positions at JEOL headquarters, including Director General of the Sales Management Division. For many years he managed sales of analytical instruments in Japan, where JEOL has a large market share for its mass spectrometers and NMR spectrometers. As a Managing Director at JEOL USA, he will work with his USA colleagues to provide feedback to JEOL headquarters in order to help the company meet the expectations of the scientific and industrial instrument market in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and South America. Mr. Toyoda holds a degree in Economics from Nippon University.


Peter Genovese

Peter Genovese,
President, Member of the Board of Directors

Named President of JEOL USA in 2009, Mr. Genovese has held key positions in the JEOL sales organization for 25 years. He most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of the Sales and Marketing Division for electron optics and analytical instrumentation. His responsibilities at JEOL have previously included management of the New England regional sales for electron optics, and Assistant Sales Manager of JEOL USA's regional sales offices. Mr. Genovese received a B.S. in Economics from Boston College and an Executive M.B.A. from Suffolk University, and is a member of several microscopy societies throughout the U.S.


Robert Pohorenec

Robert Pohorenec
Vice President and General Manager, Operations Division, Member of the Board of Directors

Promoted in 2006 to the Board of Directors, Mr. Pohorenec is General Manager of Operations at JEOL USA. He oversees management of JEOL USA inventory, procurement, logistics, accounting, information technology and related operational functions as well as two engineering groups. He has held several positions at JEOL since joining the company in 1984 as a service engineer in the Dallas, Texas office. Throughout the 1990s and until recently, he held management positions in JEOL's U.S. Products manufacturing division. He is a graduate of Northeastern University with a B.S. in Operations Technology, and received Electronic Engineering technical training at DeVry Institute.


Patrick McGinley

Patrick McGinley,
Vice President and General Manager, Service Division, Member of the Board of Directors

Since joining JEOL in 1976, Mr. McGinley has held both technical and service positions and managed numerous programs to enhance JEOL's customer satisfaction. He established JEOL's award-winning customer satisfaction program, expanded JEOL's service capabilities to 24x7, instituted JEOL's quality repair guarantee program, and managed development of JEOL's service contract system and customized scheduling and call tracking system. He has held several management positions, including district, national, and international service manager (Mexico and Canada). Mr. McGinley holds a technical degree in electronic engineering from Lincoln Technical Institute in Pennsylvania.


Masuru Iwatani

Masuru Iwatani,
Vice President, JEOL USA & JEOL de Mexico

As Vice President of both JEOL USA and JEOL de Mexico, Masaru Iwatani serves as a key liaison to the company's headquarters in Akishima, Japan for customer support. He works closely with JEOL's extensive service organization in North America and Mexico, and is expanding development and installation of controlled environmental systems. Mr. Iwatani's broad experience in production and service management began in 1972 when he worked as a production engineer in manufacturing. He has since held several international positions, from Chief Engineer to Service Manager for the UK and France. He oversaw the company's first installations in China in the mid-1970s. He has held key management positions in JEOL's Environmental Engineering, Production Division, and Service organizations. He is a graduate of Fukui National College of Technology. Mr. Iwatani came to JEOL USA in March 2010.


Yaichi Konishi

Yaichi Konishi,
Director of South American Operations & President, JEOL BRASIL Ltda.

Mr. Konishi most recently worked in the JEOL USA office as Director of South American Operations before becoming President of JEOL BRASIL in Sao Paulo in October, 2012. Since joining JEOL in 1983, he has held several key positions in sales, including sales support in Russia and South America from the 1980s to 1990s; and in South Korea, Taiwan, and the entire Asian market in 2000s. Prior to his move to the USA, he was responsible for sales expansion of TEM and Surface Analysis Instruments in domestic and overseas markets as General Manager of the Sales Promotion Group. Mr. Konishi holds a degree in Economics from Aoyama Gakuin University, Tokyo.

Robert T. Santorelli

Robert T. Santorelli,
Chairman Emeritus & Senior Advisor

Robert Santorelli, Chairman Emeritus, has held the positions of Chairman of the Board, President, CEO and COO during his 35-plus years at JEOL USA, Inc. Additionally, he has served as President of JEOL's subsidiary companies in Mexico and Canada.

Mr. Santorelli has been instrumental in guiding the company to become a stable, well-recognized organization made up of many dedicated, long-term employees located throughout the Western Hemisphere.

He began his career in the U.S. Air Force gaining technical knowledge and expertise in the area of electro optics. Bob selected a two year tour of duty in Japan and developed first hand understanding and appreciation of the Japanese people and their culture of respect and humility. He received his business education at Leslie College's Program for Business and Industry, Suffolk University, and Newbury Jr. College (Boston) and also studied at the University of Maryland Far East Asian Division (Japan).

Customers, employees and colleagues have come to know Bob's counsel, dedicated to corporate values of stability, honesty and integrity. Along with his new role as Chairman Emeritus, he will serve as the Senior Advisor to support both JEOL USA and JEOL Ltd. (Tokyo) business activities.


Hisao Wada

Hisao Wada,
Senior Advisor – South America and Brazil

Mr. Wada joined JEOL in 1970. His responsibilities have spanned both production and field service for JEOL instruments and have taken him from Japan to North and South America. Initially he applied his electrical engineering background to final test and service of JEOL transmission electron microscopes. He served as Regional Service Manager in San Francisco, California and became Director of the Service Division at JEOL USA. He was also responsible for communications between JEOL USA and the JEOL factory in Tokyo, as well as service operations in Mexico, Central and South America. He established the JEOL de Mexico office and was director of that office for 17 years. Mr. Wada became Vice President of JEOL USA in 1995 and was appointed to the position of President, JEOL BRASIL Ltda. when the office was established in 2010. His current advisory role draws on long-term international customer experience and specific knowledge about South America.

Directors

Charles Nielsen

Charles Nielsen,
Vice President SEM, EPMA, and Auger Instrumentation Product Director

Mr. Nielsen's involvement with the SEM, EPMA, and Auger product cycle begins with working closely with JEOL in Japan to establish new instrument design specifications, and continues through to long-term customer support. He is a member of JEOL USA's Board of Directors, manages the demonstration facilities at Peabody, MA and Pleasanton, CA, and is chairman of the safety and travel committees. In addition to these responsibilities, he is also a Director of the Microbeam Analysis Society. He received graduate degrees in Physics from Wake Forest University and Materials Science from Cornell University. Prior to joining JEOL, he was a research associate in the Marine Geology department at the University of Rhode Island.


Dr. Thomas Isabell

Dr. Thomas Isabell,
Director, TEM Product Division

Dr. Isabell heads the Transmission Electron Microscope product division of JEOL USA. Since joining JEOL in 2003 as Assistant Product Manager, Tom has worked closely with the JEOL USA TEM group, JEOL Ltd. in Japan and with JEOL customers to help keep the company at the forefront of TEM technology in materials and life sciences research. Prior to joining JEOL, Dr. Isabell held positions in business development at EmiSpec in Tempe, Arizona and applications support at Fischione Instruments in Export, Pennsylvania. Dr. Isabell received a B.S. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Minnesota and a Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from Northwestern University.


Dr. Masahiro Kawasaki

Dr. Masahiro Kawasaki,
Director of Global TEM Applications and Business Solutions

Dr. Kawasaki is a well-known resource at JEOL USA for TEM applications expertise and optimizing the use of the JEOL TEM. He consults with and trains customers in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, and throughout the world to help develop distinctive applications techniques and optimize the use of the TEM for both materials science and biology. Masa inspires cooperative problem-solving among researchers from multiple organizations and has worked closely with some of the world’s leading scientists who are pioneering new fields. As an expert in imaging and analysis, he developed the first S/TEM application for the JEOL TEM in the early 1990s. He holds two patents in TEM technology, has co-authored several technical papers on S/TEM HAADF and nano-area chemical analysis, and is active in technical development of TEM hardware. Masa is a 1985 graduate of Kyoto Institute of Technology, and was awarded a doctor of engineering degree in 1997.


Richard Lois

Richard Lois,
National Sales Director

Dick began his career with JEOL USA as a salesman over 30 years ago. Originally from Illinois, he lived in the Houston area where he was JEOL Sales Manager for the southwestern states for 25 years. In 2007, he moved to the Boston area when he was promoted to National Sales Manager, overseeing the JEOL sales force throughout the U.S. and Canada. The opportunity to be involved with the company on a national level has proved beneficial for JEOL. In 2010, Dick was promoted to Sales Director; his management responsibilities include the Marketing and Sales Support Departments in addition to the JEOL USA Sales team.
