Reliable determination of elemental composition

The high-resolution and high mass accuracy AccuTOF™ GCx-plus enables accurate elemental composition determination, which is a powerful tool for the qualitative analysis of unknown compounds and impurities.

Powerful Separation and High Resolution Mass Spectra

The AccuTOF-GCX-plus offers a variety of ion sources and direct probes and features an Instrument Detection Limit (IDL) of 16 fg, statistically calculated from repeated injections of 100 fg octafluoronaphthalene (OFN). In combination with comprehensive 2D gas chromatography (GCxGC) using the Zoex thermal modulator, the GCx offers both powerful chromatographic separation and high-resolution mass spectra.

High resolution and mass accuracy allow for rapid elemental composition determination and target compound identification. With a fast analog-to-digital converter providing high linear dynamic range, the JEOL AccuTOF-GCx is perfectly suited to analyzing complex mixtures of true unknowns — even at low concentrations. Applications include: environmental, petroleum, polymers and materials, forensics, foods, flavors, and fragrances.

Powerful, streamlined data analysis

While hundreds or even thousands of components can be separated and detected using this type of system, interpreting the data sets can be challenging due to the unprecedented amount of information the data provides. The AccuTOF-GCx features new software methods and tools to simplify the analysis of GC/HRMS and GCxGC/HRMS data sets from complex mixtures such as crude oil and environmental contaminants.

msFineAnalysis Qualitative Software for GC-MS

For qualitative analysis of High Resolution GC Mass Spec data, JEOL has developed msFineAnalysis software that integrates both EI and soft ionization data (GC/CI, PI, FI)  with library search, exact mass, and isotope data.  The software compares molecular formula information acquired from the NIST library search with soft ionization exact mass data analysis to ensure accurate qualitative results. It automatically examines the NIST library search results, reduces the possibility of false positive identifications, and selects the correct components from multiple candidates with similar scores. For unknown components not registered in the NIST libraries, it estimates molecular formulas by using the soft ionization data, acquires partial structure information and estimates structural formulas by using the EI data. msFineAnalysis takes qualitative GC-MS analysis to a whole new level, and is a major addition to the capabilities of our AccuTOF-GCx PLUS.

NEW: Version 2 of msFineAnalysis provides fast chromatographic deconvolution to provide high-quality database-searchable mass spectra, even for compounds that are not chromatographically resolved. Group analysis allows you to easily visualize compounds that share common structural features characterized by specific fragment ions or neutral losses.

Multiple ionization methods

The AccuTOF-GCx-plus is designed for optimum throughput, operation, and uptime. An optional combination EI/FI/FD ion source eliminates the need for source exchange for these experiments. Gas chromatography/field ionization can also be used to characterize samples that would be difficult to analyze by any other technique.

Automated performance optimization

Automatic ion source tuning, drift calibration, data file conversion and export optimize the speed and performance of the AccuTOF-GCx-plus.

Compact footprint

An integrated chassis consolidates all requisite spectrometer components, including vacuum pumps, into a compact footprint. Temperature-sensitive components remain under controlled conditions and overall instrument stability and experimental reproducibility are greatly enhanced. The AccuTOF-GCx-plus is also uniquely designed to remove 99% of He carrier gas ions before they enter the flight tube. Since the bulk of the carrier gas ions never reach the detector, the MCP lifetime is maximized.
