JMS-S3000 SpiralTOF™-plus 2.0 MALDI-TOFMS as a Shared Instrument

Phospholipids are one of the major components of egg yolk. In this study, we extracted phospholipids from the egg yolk and tried to analyze their structures with the TOF-TOF option of the JMS-S3000 SpiralTOF.

The JMS-S3000 SpiralTOF™-plus Ultra-High Mass Resolution MALDI-TOFMS System time-of-flight optics design utilizes a figure-eight ion trajectory to allow a 17m flight path to fit in an extremely small console.

The JMS-S3000 "SpiralTOF™" is a MALDI-TOFMS that incorporates an innovative SpiralTOF ion optics system. The JMS-S3000 is available with a TOF-TOF option that can acquire high-energy collision-induced dissociation (CID) product ion spectra for monoisotopically selected precursor ions.

The JMS-S3000 "SpiralTOF™" is a MALDI-TOF MS incorporating an innovative SpiralTOF™ ion optics system. JEOL's patented technology achieves a spiral ion trajectory of 17m within a compact 1m space.

We investigated the structural analysis of the polyethylene-terephthalate (PET) polymer exposed to the on-plate alkaline degradation method by using the JMS-S3000 "SpiralTOFTM-plus" with TOF-TOF option. The SpiralTOFTM-plus uses an ultra-high resolution TOF for MS1 which allows monoisotopic precursor selection and a reflectron TOF for MS2 to analyze the product ion spectra produced from high energy collisional induced dissociation (HE-CID).

In this report, we have applied this combined method to analyze a polyethylene terephthalate (PET) that was degraded by ultraviolet (UV) irradiation.

In this report, we have expanded MALDI-MSI to analyzing a PET film that was exposed to UV radiation. Additionally, a SEM was used to look at the morphological differences in the PET film before and after UV irradiation.

A new MALDI-TOF/TOF system with monoisotopic precursor selection was applied to the analysis of triacylglycerols in an olive oil sample. Monoisotopic precursor selection made it possible to obtain product-ion mass spectra without interference from species that differed by a single double bond. Complete structure determination of all triacylglycerols, including structural isomers, was made possible by interpreting the charge-remote fragmentation resulting from high-energy collision-induced dissociation (CID) of the sodiated triacylglycerols.

Tandem mass spectrometry is a powerful tool for polymer characterization. It can obtain information about polymer end groups, repeating structures (linear, cyclic, or branched), and copolymerization. High-energy collision–induced dissociation (HE-CID) is a fragmentation method that is available only in tandem time-of-flight mass spectrometry (TOF–TOF). The informative fragmentation channels, which are difficult to observe with commonly used low-energy CID, are often observable in HE-CID spectra. In MSTips 270, we proposed a method to visualize this abundant structural information and enable intuitive analysis using the “Remainders of KM” (RKM) plot method. In this report, we applied the method to analyze polyethylene oxide (PEO) with different end groups.
