Analysis of gases generated from all solid-state Li-ion batteries using sulfide-based solid electrolytes

In this paper, we focus on the gases generated during the charging and discharging of all-solid-state batteries and present an example of analysis using a mass spectrometer.

Analysis of calcium oxalate and polystyrene in oxidizing atmosphere using high-resolution TG-TOFMS

We have introduced the oxygen-resistant filament application note for QMS in MSTips No. 320. In this MSTips, we introduce anti-oxygen filament application data for high-resolution TOFMS.

Improving efficiency in drinking water analysis by high-end GC-QMS

JEOL Ltd. released the 6th generation high-end GC-QMS "JMS-Q1600GC UltraQuad™ SQ-Zeta" in 2021. We report on the construction of a system that enables measurement of all GC-MS items of water quality standards with a single instrument using the JMS-Q1600GC. The system can measure all test items without the need for column replacement by connecting a mid-polar column and a non-polar column to one JMS-Q1600GC in a double column configuration. In addition, by using the new attachment "High-Performance Ion Source (EPIS)", an easier "Scan quantification" is possible instead of the "SIM quantification" that requires complicated condition settings. This MSTips reports the results of the evaluation of the linearity of the calibration curves for each item and the repeatability at a lower concentration limit.

Generated gas analysis of styrene-butadiene rubber using high-resolution TG-TOFMS (2)

Results using the EI method are reported in MSTips 343. In this report, we describe a highly sensitive negative ion measurement method by TG-MS using the Electron Capture Ionization (ECI) method. In addition to selective detection of molecular ions, which is a feature of the soft ionization method, the ECI method can selectively detect oxygen, sulfur, and various halogen compounds with high electronegativity, a feature of the negative ionization method. Therefore, the ECI method is considered to be effective for the analysis of trace constituents.

Generated gas analysis of styrene-butadiene rubber using high-resolution TG-TOFMS (1)

Thermogravimetric-Mass Spectrometry (TG-MS) is effective for the analysis of synthetic rubber because it is possible to correlate and obtain on the weight loss and qualitative information on the generated gas when heating is applied. On the other hand, since this method does not use chromatogram separation, many rubber pyrolysis products (mainly hydrocarbons) make it difficult to analyze trace components. Therefore, mass separation by high-resolution TOFMS JMS-T2000GC was performed and useful results were obtained. While this report presents the results of the EI method, MSTips 344 reports the results of the Electron Capture Ionization (ECI) method.

Analysis of dioxins in food and feed by using New JMS-TQ4000GC and software

Currently, dioxins analysis can be done not only using GC-HRMS but also with GC-MS/MS according to European commission regulation (EU589/2014). Recently, JEOL has developed a new GC-triple quadrupole MS (JMS-TQ4000GC) and a new dedicated dioxins analysis software called TQ-DioK. In addition, we have already introduced dioxins analysis result by using standard sample (MSTips338). In this study, we evaluated JMS-TQ4000GC with TQ-DioK using food samples.

Dioxins analysis by New JMS-TQ4000GC and software

Recently, JEOL has developed a new GC-triple quadrupole MS (JMS-TQ4000GC) and a new dedicated dioxins analysis software called TQ-DioK. In this study, we evaluated JMS-TQ4000GC with TQ-DioK using dioxins standard samples.

Structural analysis of anionic surfactants in MALDI negative ion mode using

The AES was observed as RO-(EO)n-SO3Na+Na+ in the positive ion mode. If the sample containing AES and POEAE, the mass spectrum will be complicated because both of them can be ionized in the positive ion mode. On the other hand, AES was selectively ionized in the negative ion mode. Furthermore, end-groups were estimated by TOF-TOF negative ion mode. It was found that if an anionic surfactant such as AES is contained in the sample, it is worth trying to confirm their existence and perform structural analysis using negative ion mode.

Effect of JMS-T2000GC high mass resolution on the analysis result−KMD Plot comparison using msRepeatFinder

In this work, we used direct probe field desorption (FD) of crude oil (a very complex mixture) to monitor the effects of improved resolution. Additionally, the JEOL msRepeatFinder software was used to examine the crude oil data by using Kendrick mass defect (KMD) plots in order to more clearly visualize the effects of improved mass resolution on the analysis results.

Effect of high mass accuracy on the analysis result by JMS-T2000GC−Effect to narrow down the result of msFineAnalysis integrated analysis

In this work, we used the thermal decomposition of an acrylic resin to evaluate how improved mass accuracy can affect the analysis results for a complex sample. Additionally, the msFineAnalysis version 3 software included with the JMS-T2000GC was used to quickly determine the impact of improved mass accuracy on the qualitative analysis results.
