The DART-TOFMS system (JMS-T100LP AccuTOF™ LC-Express) from JEOL is widely used in forensic application3 offering rapid qualitative screening, minimal sample preparation, and high mass resolution with accurate mass measurement capability. In this MSTips, we report the detection of etomidate and ketamine in e-cigarette samples using DART-TOFMS, with data analysis performed using msAxel and Mass Mountaineer software, demonstrating its effectiveness for forensic screening.

In this study aroma compounds in Hojicha leaves were analyzed using thermal desorption (TD)-GC-MS. The data were then analyzed using msFineAnalysis IQ Ver.3, and the results of the integrated analysis are reported here.

In this MSTips, we report a case study of AI Structure Analysis of oyster aroma compounds using HS-SPME-GC-QMS and msFineAnalysis IQ Ver.3. Molecular mass information obtained from the CI data was used to evaluate whether the structure reported for oyster alcohol, 1,5-octadien-3-ol, could be proposed as a candidate structure by AI Structure Analysis.

To address the challenges associated with manual structural elucidation using GC-QMS data, we developed msFineAnalysis IQ, which incorporates a structural elucidation approach based on deep learning-assisted mass spectrum prediction (AI Structure Analysis). Accordingly, the product name was changed from msFineAnalysis iQ to msFineAnalysis IQ to reflect the incorporation of AI technology. This application note introduces the AI Structure Analysis function in msFineAnalysis IQ.

Electron Spin Resonance (ESR) method is a useful technique which can detect polarons and trapped radicals as a change of magnetic moments, sensitively and selectively. In contrast, Electrically Detected Magnetic Resonance (EDMR, as shown in Fig. 2(b)) can selectively detect electron spins related to recombination currents, which are associated with device performance.

We present an example of defect structure evaluation based on the angular dependence of ESR signals. In silicon crystals, the resonance magnetic field and the g-value of an ESR signal vary with the orientation of the external magnetic field relative to the crystal axes ([100], [110], [111], etc.). Analysis of this angular dependence provides valuable information about the symmetry and electronic structure of vacancy-related defects. Here, we measured the angular dependence of the g-value by varying the direction of the applied magnetic field using a silicon single crystal oriented along the [111] direction.

In this report, we analyzed the oligomer region of the same samples using a high-resolution MALDI-TOFMS JMS-S3000 "SpiralTOF™-plus 2.0" in combination with Kendrick Mass Defect (KMD) analysis.
